Places where you can use the Internet

Revised: March 29th, 2013

Many refugees use the Internet to collect information and email their family and friends. Some buy computers and pay for subscription to use the Internet in their own apartments. Some use internet cafes for the same purpose. In this section, we will show you some places where you can use the Internet.

Internet Café

Internet Cafes are cafes where you can use the Internet. There are a various kinds of internet cafes. In some cafes, you need to become a member to use the Internet while in others membership is not necessity as long as you pay for the Internet use. To use the internet in such cafes, normally you need to pay about 500 yen for the first hour, and the fee would be about 50 yen for each additional 10 minutes afterwards.

Some internet cafes have video games, comics (manga), MOs and CD-ROMs available for customers. Not only internet cafes, but also some “Manga cafes” (which has a large collections of comics and provide beverage service) have computers that you can use for the Internet.

On the webpage “Internet cafes in Japan”, you can see a list of internet cafes available all over Japan (the list is both in Japanese and English). However, the webpage does not include every single internet café in Japan, so you might want to ask your friends or neighbors to check whether there are any other internet cafes available in your neighborhood.

You can use the Internet in some public libraries for free. Please check with your local libraries.
