Online Charity for Refugees Living in Japan: Run/Walk & Cross-Border Culture Festival
DAN DAN RUN's 1st Online Event Coming This November!
With the spread of the new coronavirus, we regretfully postponed the 7th DAN DAN RUN, a charity run & walk event for refugees living in Japan, originally scheduled this May.
We believe, however, in this uncertain and anxious time, there is an even greater need to support refugees. We cannot stop our continuous support now. That is why we decided to hold DAN DAN RUN online for the first time.
This event is open for everyone, from past participants of DAN DAN RUN to the ones who have interest in supporting refugees but feel hesitated, to the ones who are new to the issue of refugees in Japan. And you can join from anywhere!
We hope you enjoy this event in your own way, joining in our online run & walk and/or in cultural events.
In the past DANDAN RUN events, we aimed at offering the participants the opportunities to learn about refugees living in Japan and to realize "the value of diversity" from various angles, through not only the charity run & walk but also the exhibitions and fun attractions at the site.
The basic concept remains the same in this online event: with the theme of "Cross-border Culture Festival", we are planning an event where you can enjoy a variety of programs making contributions to support refugees.
Online Run & Walk" # 難民ツナチャレ (Nanmin Tsuna Chare)"
DAN DAN RUN, usually held around the Imperial Palace in May, is coming online this year!
The idea is that participants post the distance they ran and/or walked between Nov. 1st and 21st, and comparing the outcome, we have time to think of the distance between Japan and the countries where refugees now living in Japan used to live.
The event title " # 難民ツナチャレ (Nanmin Tsuna Chare)" is an abbreviation of three key words: Nanmin (Refugees) + Tsunagu (Connect) + Challenge. In this title, we express our hope that this event can remotely connect like-minded supporters for refugees.
You can join easily! Just post the distance you ran and/or walked on your SNS account（Twitter、Facebook、Instagram）with the dedicated hashtag "＃難民ツナチャレ". Posting pictures with the distance you ran/walked on running apps etc. is also welcome.
There will be weekly announcements of the total running/walking distance posted by the participants.
The final result will be announced at the grand finale on Nov. 21.
# Please note that the contents you posted may be published in the event pages on SNS or introduced at the finale.
You can join even if you did not register for a ticket below: just post your distance and connect our hearts as one for refugees!
# When you post your distance during the period, please be sure to disable browsing limitations on your SNS accounts so that we can check your record submission.

What is DAN DAN RUN?
The event is managed by the volunteer "DAN DAN RUN committee" and the proceeds from the event will be used to support refugees through Japan Association for Refugees (JAR).
This event is named "DAN DAN RUN," from the Japanese word "暖 (dan)" which means "warmth." Because the theme of the first event in February 2014 was "Give the refugees a warm winter, with the warmth of the participants' hearts."See last year's event here. (Only in Japanese, sorry!)
Use of the Proceed
Proceeds from this event will be used for various activities of JAR, such as costs for shelter, food, visits to the JAR office, medical expenses for people without health insurance, and other support for refugees. JAR staff also engages in important activities such as consultations on applying for asylum, job search, and other necessities for life in Japan.
